Road Closed

As I was riding today (Saturday, August 5, 2023) into Whitehorse I noticed a changing traffic sign in front of me. The sign read travel advisory for the Dempster Highway and travel advisory for the Klondike Highway. Both highways were next on my route. I stopped for lunch and to look up the travel advisories for those two areas and saw they were closed due to the fires. I actually thought that might become a reality as I did some checking the night before. So at this point I can’t get to Tuk. And I am not sure when circumstances will change. Am I disappointed, sure… But not entirely.

Which leads me to this picture. It was from our Colorado adventure trip in 2020 with Verl, my two son in laws and friends. It was Verl and I’s last trip together. I am in the front of the picture and Verl is right behind. He was always right behind me. To help me when I fell, which was a few times, to teach me how to ride and to coach me through the hard areas. It was his way of taking care of me, an older inexperienced rider. He was a great rider. The reality is he won’t be on this trip. And if I am honest, I don’t really want to do it without his help. So I am good.

I am off to Alaska tomorrow and to other places that were special to him. The journey to honor him continues.

Please support this cause.

Grace and peace,

Clint
